Meditation is something we’ve all heard about and have been curious to try but the majority of us completely freaked out by the whole idea of the experience. Be sure to watch this space as I’ll be writing several posts on the importance of meditation in our lives with some simple strategies on how to meditate for beginners.
A couple of years ago, I kept hearing about the benefits of meditation and wanted to try but just didn’t think I could shut my brain off and be able to do it. I want on a mission to find out what exactly it was and how to do it and why meditate. What I discovered was an absolute beauty in silence. A place of pure peace and calm, light and love. You learn to not control the chatter of your mind but to just let it pass without judgment or anxiety and there lies your freedom.
Meditation is a journey which brings you back to life. It teaches you how to slow down, clear your head and focus on the present. It helps us to let go of our attachments and irrelevant thoughts, outside distractions and get to know and value ourselves. Meditation is known to reduce stress levels and improve health, through greater self awareness and poise. It also helps you to think more clearly and creatively.
I found a great quote about meditation “In silence lies the ability to listen; to listen to ourselves, to others and to God. Listening is a lost art. Without it we cannot communicate, we cannot relate to each other and so we cannot live life meaningfully. We need to learn to listen. Sitting in silence allows us to listen to ourselves and to understand. This silence can heal. The worries, the pain can be healed when we listen. Spiritual medicine is ever-present in the soul. Whenever we need it, to whatever extent we need it, we can find it within” Innerspace
We need to listen more as all the answers come from deep within ourselves. Meditation allows us to hear the answers to all our questions and prayers. It’s a time to escape the chaos of our lives and just be. I don’t meditate as much as I would like and in my crazy hectic schedule I miss and crave the silence. It’s like a refreshing glass of ice cold water in the middle of the desert. It’s the space where I can go and know that everything is perfect.
